This is the best Daily Prompt since the Daily Prompt about sliced bread!
Most of us have heard the saying, “That’s the best thing since sliced bread!” What do you think is actually the best thing since sliced bread?
I think it’s the internet. It’s a logical extension of the printing press, and yet it is also a combination of television, radio, encyclopedia, forum, telephone, communications of all sorts, and both a source of and inspiration for creativity. And now that we’re all connected in portable ways, we’re nearly always connected.
The downside of this is that our connections with actual living people might be suffering. I’ve watched some TED talks about this very topic. So despite all this connectivity to people you’d otherwise never meet, and the capacity for people who are a little odd to meet like-minded individuals across the world, make a point to get out and talk to some actual people regularly. And by this, I mean turn everything off and really engage them and them only. Disconnect from everything but them. It’s hard, I know. But do it. Simon says do it.

I am going to hang out with real people this afternoon! I’m a little nervous that I will try to type my conversation instead of speak the words.
That was to myself, mostly. I’ve been sick, and holidays, and blah blah blah, so I need to get out.
Still sick? Wow….I hope you get rid of that bug soon.
It’s going away! I am feeling better, and I can’t wait to go to the gym tomorrow, though I can certainly wait to go to work. Oh, I’ll go, because for some reason they’re having a birthday lunch for me tomorrow. Better late than never!
It’s the thought that counts, I guess! Glad to hear you are feeling better. I hate being sick any time, but it always feels worse in the winter.
Do you still record any of your morning drives?
No – I occasionally write things that are along the same lines, though, and save them in a folder called “Sceneslike”. I’ve been thinking about doing it again, but in shorthand. It was a real pain transcribing up to 15 minutes of me talking. It took about 3 minutes for every minute of talking, and that’s if I had no interruptions. It started feeling like an assignment, and wasn’t that fun anymore. So I do it when the mood strikes.
I’ll be downloading the other two books soon. Your talent and humor really does amaze and inspire me.
I should tell you that first book plus second book equals third book.
Good to know, since neither the first nor the second are available on Kindle. Get writing!!
LOL I know. I’ve been terrible about it.
It must be tough being in such demand!
I was thinking the same thing today. RL calls.
Or texts. ha ha
That it does.
Soon.
OMG I’m actually going to agree with you on this whole darn post.
What, do you usually disagree with me or something?
Well no not usually, well maybe sometimes, well okay yes…well no. You’ve confused me. HA!
Yes I haven’t not done the opposite of the inverse of what you didn’t say.
I didn’t know that. That’s great news!
I agree with every word.
I should edit some bizarre craziness in there! lol just kidding. Thanks.
for now!
The hardest part is not referring to online people in real world conversations.
You mean using their screen names, or at all?
In a way that doesn’t quite show how much time I spend online…
LOL the only way not to show that is not to do it. It’s inevitable. But I know how you feel. It’s a strange addiction, that seems harmless, but you always wonder if it is.
I did that once. It was fucking hilarious, the look on their faces.
Lol
So now I’m supposed to call you Simon?
Call me Maybe
Carly Rae Jepson! Did I get it right Simon?
All my dates are now online…it’s safer…no diseases or anything.
Love is a disease.
Basically
One you want to catch and spread. Also, damn, you’re up early.
Yea…it’s romantic Monday. Lot’s of reading to do.
You woke up early for Romantic Monday? Awwww
Doesn’t everyone wake up early for romantic Monday??? It’s like a weekly holiday.
I guess you’re right…
I refer to you and the rest of our blogging family so nonchalantly, Joe doesn’t think anything of it. I mention all of you a lot, too. El Guapo? Yeah, neither Joe nor the other Nicole even giggle when I say the name. Le Clown? Yeah, he’s just Le Clown. Edward wasn’t ever giggle-worthy. Just when I call you HAWTspur.
I no make you giggle?
YOU make me giggle! Your name, in conversation, isn’t quirky enough to me giggle-worthy. But you, sir, are.
Yes, but looks aren’t everything.
Hahahahaha, You got the looks AND the jokes.
Naaa… you got your looks from your mom
