Sliced Bread < What? – A Whole Wheat Daily Prompt Post

disconnect-mdThis is the best Daily Prompt since the Daily Prompt about sliced bread!

Most of us have heard the saying, “That’s the best thing since sliced bread!” What do you think is actually the best thing since sliced bread?

I think it’s the internet. It’s a logical extension of the printing press, and yet it is also a combination of television, radio, encyclopedia, forum, telephone, communications of all sorts, and both a source of and inspiration for creativity. And now that we’re all connected in portable ways, we’re nearly always connected.

The downside of this is that our connections with actual living people might be suffering. I’ve watched some TED talks about this very topic. So despite all this connectivity to people you’d otherwise never meet, and the capacity for people who are a little odd to meet like-minded individuals across the world, make a point to get out and talk to some actual people regularly. And by this, I mean turn everything off and really engage them and them only. Disconnect from everything but them. It’s hard, I know. But do it. Simon says do it.

  1. I refer to you and the rest of our blogging family so nonchalantly, Joe doesn’t think anything of it. I mention all of you a lot, too. El Guapo? Yeah, neither Joe nor the other Nicole even giggle when I say the name. Le Clown? Yeah, he’s just Le Clown. Edward wasn’t ever giggle-worthy. Just when I call you HAWTspur. :)
