Physical Rhymes

There’s a great writer of poetry who I recently hyped mightily – the lovely and talented Hastywords. Recently, we got it into our heads to have a go at a poetry duet, with good results. I won’t tell you who wrote what, at first, though she might. We are each posting this at the same time on our blogs, in delightful synchronicity.

Physical Rhymes

Never stop wanting me
Or haunting me
Or I’ll fade away
Never stop thinking of
Making love
In shades of gray
Never stop dancing
Romancing the floor
Upon which I walk
But honey we’ve got to talk

My heart keeps stopping
Skipping rhythmic beats
Please keep my name
Written when we meet
Softly on your lips
Whispering in my ears
Swaying with my hips
Motions only I can hear
All other sounds melt
Evaporating with air

Angels sigh
Fireflies light our only way
Hard to believe
I must leave with the light of day
You keep pulling me back
With your promises
And you make me lose track
Of my senses
You’re so forceful with everything
You want to feel about us
But honey we’ve got things to discuss

When you try to leave
I feel frozen in time
Anguish stealing my smile
Completely wrapped up
In physical rhymes
Please just stay awhile
Let the world rotate alone
As we lay in the sunrise
Melting into the sand

I hold your hand
And with your eyes you make me stay
But the burning moment we just had
Left with the light of day
Still, with everything I’ve known
You caused the spark in me
Took all the dark in me
And this heart in me beats faster with you
Than with anyone I’ve found
So honey, I’m sticking around
