Votes are in and it was narrowed down to the following bands:
1) Duran Duran
2) The Cars
3) Billy Idol
4) U2
So I’ll put some songs by those bands, and you’ll vote, and then we’ll have The Best Song of the 1980s, that song that represents the whole decade, as voted on by you. If one of these doesn’t suit you, write one in.

Oh EH thank you so much for taking me back there, that was lovely xo
You’re welcome! I probably should have done this poll differently. There are so many 80s songs these 4 bands didn’t do.
I loved Mony Mony.
It’s good, but was it the best of the 80s? Like I said, so many songs…
You’re right, no I wouldn’t say it was the best of the eighties. hmmm, will rethink it
I’m not saying it’s not. I’m just taking a poll. I did genres first, but it meant that, like, Just Like Heaven and How Soon Is Now and Thriller and Home Sweet Home and Livin on a Prayer aren’t on the list
Yep, I do understand
Oh, sorry!
Whenever I think of the eighties I think of FYC’s “She Drives Me Crazy.” I swear to God I hear that song everyday.
Excellent song
Yeah, it’s a total brainbomb song. I like to tell people whenever they hear it to think of me. Without fail I get phone calls cursing me within 48 hours. Works every time.
I played the crap out of that cd, wore it out.
Shaaa draaaab maaaa craaaazaaaaaa
Laaaaaaaak naaaaa waaaaaaan aaaaaaaaalse
I love making fun of that song – at least, of the guy’s voice. But yeah, that’s a good one. Also, there’s no Depeche Mode or New Order, either.
Hmm, the first two Cars albums were released in 78 and 79, so technically can’t vote for them Duran Duran drove me nuts, can’t vote for them. Mony Mony was a redo of a 1968 song, cant vote for that, I have to go with U2 on technicalities, although it was close with the Billy Idol stuff.
Bands of the 80s don’t have to have started in the 80s, John! In fact, technically all the bands on the list started in the 70s. Billy Idol started in Generation X in 1976, and Dancing With Myself was originally a Generation X song. U2 started in 1976. Duran Duran started in 1978. As for the Cars, Moving In Stereo was in one of the iconic movies of the 80s, Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
All true. Just doing the brain dance to justify the one I was going to pick anyway
Bananarama’s Cruel Summer?
You can dance if you want to
Just for the hell of it: White Wedding. Should be something to scream out every morning: “It’s a nice day to START AGAIN.” Or whatever.
Or his other song about a woman who likes to cut her grass after dark.
You know, “In the midnight hour, she cried “Mow mow mow”".
If anyone wants to scrap these songs, bands or genres and do write-ins, there’s a lot more songs from the 80s.
Serriously? This is the best music from that decade? I just want to cry.
Come on Sunday, Bloody Sunday!
